Bridges Academy and AEGUS
Announce 2008 Conference

 January, 2008

Bridges Academy in Studio City, California, and the Association for the Education of Gifted Underachieving Students (AEGUS) have announced details of the 2008 AEGUS conference. The conference will address the experience and causes of underachievement in gifted students, including learning disabilities, socio-economic status, gender, and even adoption. These and other issues, along with strategies to help this unique population find success, will be explored at the AEGUS 2008 Annual Conference in southern California at the Hilton Universal City Hotel, April 4-6.

This national event, designed for educators, parents and professionals, will feature keynotes by authors Temple Grandin, Jonathan Mooney, and Samantha Abeel. Attendees will find more than 40 interactive seminars on curriculum, advocacy, technology, parenting, understanding gifted and learning disabled students, and more. According to the host organizations, the conference brings together the top people in the field of gifted underachievement in general, and “twice-exceptionality” (gifted/highly gifted students with learning differences) in particular.

Topics and discussions will focus on a full range of issues, including non-verbal learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD), organizational challenges, auditory and visual processing problems, dysgraphia, acute perfectionism, Asperger Syndrome, autism, divergent learning styles, socio-economic status, ethnicity, gender, and adoption.

AEGUS provides support and education to teachers, parents and para-professionals working with underachieving gifted students.  For more than 20 years, the association has provided a forum for ideas, advocacy, and interventions aimed at helping these students reach their full and considerable potential. Bridges Academy, an independent school in Studio City, CA., will host the conference. Bridges is a college preparatory school dedicated to educating twice-exceptional (2e) students in grades 5-12.  For more information on the AEGUS conference, visit www.aegus1.org/conference, or the Bridges website at www.bridges.edu or call (818) 506-1091.
