Welcome to the October issue of 2e: Twice-Exceptional Newsletter!

As we publish our second-anniversary issue, we’d like to thank the subscribers and friends of 2e Newsletter for your support, friendship, feedback, and encouragement. As we head into year three of this venture, we hope that you continue to find the information and the resources you need to make a difference in the lives of the twice-exceptional children that you raise, teach, or help.

The focus of this issue is probably the most common learning disability among twice-exceptional children, and all children – dyslexia. This cluster of symptoms results in difficulties with language skills, especially reading. According to the International Dyslexia Association, up to 20 percent of the population has a reading disability. Of those, 85 percent have dyslexia.

In the lead article for this issue Drs. Fernette and Brock Eide describe children with “stealth dyslexia” – a situation in which they appear to have normal reading abilities but still struggle with word processing and written output. Another article, written by education consultant Margaret Boudreau, looks at how findings from the field of neuroscience are shaping instruction for students with dyslexia. In a conversation with psychologist Paul Beljan you’ll learn about an approach to treating children with both dyslexia and attention deficit that he’s found successful. An article on assistive technology describes hardware and software products that give students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities the support they need in the classroom.

As always, this issue includes our regular columns and features. Plus, you’ll find some additional conference coverage from this summer’s 2005 conference of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children.

If there are copies of 2e Newsletter from our past two years that you’d like to have for yourself or pass along to someone else, all 12 of our back issues are available. Look for ordering information on our website.

We thank you for reading 2e Newsletter.
