Welcome to what should have been the
January 2008 issue of 2e: Twice-Exceptional Newsletter. We apologize to
our readers for having to wait until February. (Mark says, “Nonsense;
the publication date is simply January 34th.”)
Our focus this time is on learning about
2e. We look at ways that parents, educators, and others with an interest
in 2e children can expand their understanding of who these children are
and how best to meet their needs.
Our lead article features an organization
of parents who have made it their mission to provide information,
support, and training to those in Howard County, Maryland, who raise,
teach, and work with twice-exceptional kids. In another article we look
at what a school district in Fairfax County, Virginia, has done to carry
out a similar mission. In the article “Learning about 2e,” you’ll find a
variety of information sources and professional development
opportunities related to twice exceptional, including a new certificate
program for educators who want to specialize in this area of study.
Along with our usual columns and
features, this issue features plenty of conference coverage. There’s
more from the 2007 NAGC conference, plus coverage by Sarah Tuckerman of
a session from the Biennial Conference of the Victorian Association for
Gifted and Talented Children in Melbourne, Australia.
We thank those of you who took the time
to complete the brief online survey about our previous issue. Your
feedback helps us understand what our subscribers need and want, and
will help us choose material for future issues. We especially appreciate
your responses to the open-ended questions on the November/December
issue in particular and our issues overall. We may ask a similar favor
again in the future to see “how we’re doing.”
Thanks again…
