Welcome to the third anniversary issue of 2e: Twice-Exceptional Newsletter! We began publishing in October of 2003. Over the years we’ve enjoyed bringing you information to help you understand, parent, and teach the 2e kids in your life. We’ve also enjoyed being able to meet so many of you in person, by phone, and by e-mail. Your feedback and encouragement have made our efforts all worthwhile. In this issue we focus is on two major obstacles that many 2e kids are facing as they begin the new school year: writing and organization. In our lead article, Miriam Darnell looks at why it’s so hard for some kids to write and offers strategies for getting over the hurdles. Diane Newton tells educators how they can give help and hope to disorganized students by making organization part of the curriculum. Sandra Rief offers parents and teachers plenty of tips for helping kids get on track and stay there. (These two obstacles drove us crazy as we raised our children; we wish we’d had information like this at the time, and we hope you find help in this issue should you be plagued with either or both of the obstacles.) Also in this issue we look at a new book by two physicians who specialize in identifying and meeting children’s learning challenges. The book is The Mislabeled Child by Drs. Fernette and Brock Eide. Finally, in addition to our regular columns and features, you’ll find coverage of sessions that took place at a Chicago-area conference on AD/HD. If there are copies of 2e Newsletter from the past three years that you’d like to have for yourself or to pass along to someone else, all back issues are available. Look for ordering information elsewhere in this issue. (Our archives are available free to subscribers on the 2e Newsletter website, in the subscribers-only area.) We’re pleased to announce that the SENG organization (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted) recently invited 2e Newsletter’s editor Linda to join its board of directors. She looks forward to working with SENG to help further that organization’s most worthy goals. In this issue you’ll notice that 2e Newsletter has begun taking advertising. If you have an event, product, or service of interest to the 2e community, please contact us for information. Thanks to the subscribers and friends of 2e Newsletter for the support you’ve given us over the last three years!
